offshore wind accelerator

Vineyard Wind’s proposed near-term construction of the Vineyard Wind project, with construction starting in 2019, is a historic opportunity to ignite the Massachusetts supply chain and workforce.  Vineyard Wind is committed to leveraging the early start of construction of the project to maximize near-term job creation, as well as build a foundation of workforce and supply chain development that will set the Massachusetts offshore wind industry on a path of sustained growth and job creation.

The Offshore Wind Accelerator program will make Massachusetts the powerhouse of the U.S. offshore wind industry, and the Commonwealth the hub for supply chain investment and home to the nation’s most skilled and experienced offshore wind workforce.

In order to make the most of Vineyard Wind’s plans to give the Massachusetts offshore wind industry a strong and sustaining start, Vineyard Wind is committing up to $15 million in three initiatives that will build a skilled offshore wind workforce centered in southeastern Massachusetts, attract additional investment in infrastructure and supply chain development, and advance technologies that will allow for greater expansion of offshore wind, while continuing to protect marine mammals.  Learn more here.

vineyard power

In January 2015, Vineyard Wind and Vineyard Power signed the nation’s first, federally recognized, offshore wind Community Benefit Agreement in the United States.

Vineyard Power Coop and Vineyard Wind's Community Benefit Agreement (CBA) aims to bring specific value from offshore wind farm development to the islands and the region including, but not limited to, local job creation, and the construction of an operations and maintenance facility in Vineyard Haven harbor.  Since the signing of the CBA, Vineyard Power has been involved in the day to day operations, specifically leading outreach and playing an integral role in the permitting of the wind farm.

Vineyard Power Cooperative, a member owned 501-c-12 non-profit, based on the island of Martha’s Vineyard was formed in November 2009.  With a growing membership base of over 1,380 households & businesses, the cooperative aims to keep the benefits and control of local renewable energy resources within the island community.

Their mission, as a 21st century energy cooperative, is to produce electricity from local, renewable resources while advocating for and keeping the benefits within our island community.  Their vision is to make the island of Martha's Vineyard carbon neutral, in domestic electricity, transportation and home heating, by 2050.

Community outreach and education has been a primary objective for Vineyard Power since its formation in November 2009.  Vineyard Power works to inform the public of the state and national renewable energy goals and process, including the regulatory framework, and ensuring that the communities' desired outcomes are addressed.  Vineyard Wind and Vineyard Power formalized their strategic partnership in 2011 with the execution of a Memorandum of Understanding.
