Internships

Vineyard Wind’s efforts in the development of the local workforce included a robust internship program, offering three cycles yearly throughout development and construction. Each cycle, college students, recent college graduates and mid-career pivoters have been extended the opportunity to gain tangible experience in this emerging industry by collaborating with Vineyard Wind staff, as well as to work independently, developing their own work styles.

From 2018-2026, Vineyard Wind hosted 106 unique internships across all teams, with 28 of those individuals hired on to the project full time at the completion of their internship. Many others went on to advance their careers with contractors or others in the offshore wind industry.

As the project has transitioned into Operations and Maintenance, opportunities for internship are no longer available year-round, but any seasonal opportunities will be posted below.

ExplORE Program

Vineyard Wind 1 was pleased to host the ExplORE Program, which offered two-year temporary, paid mentorship positions for recent graduates looking to start careers in the offshore wind industry. The program consisted of 24 months of training across 4 different teams building Vineyard Wind 1, the nation’s first utility-scale offshore wind project. The program is now closed. We thank our mentees for their hard work and contributions to the project.

Mentees were offered a combination of experiential learning coupled with professional development trainings and networking opportunities to provide a unique experience in offshore wind energy project construction. Candidates were based either at Vineyard Wind 1’s headquarters in New Bedford, Massachusetts or in our offices in Boston’s Back Bay.
