Notice to Mariners and Fishermen
Data Collection Buoy Installed May 2018
Location: Approximately 17 nautical miles due south of Wasque Point
Vineyard Wind has deployed a met-ocean (aka FLIDAR) buoy to record meteorological, environmental and sea condition information within the project area (see chart and lat/long on reverse). The buoy has a yellow hull and at night a flashing yellow light: 1 second ash / 3 seconds off. The buoy is equipped with AIS, NMSI: 992571021.
Fishermen and mariners are requested to note the buoy location and to maintain a safe distance during fishing and marine activities. The buoy is moored using open link chain, with a heavy chain anchor (see figure – not to scale).
The information collected from the buoy will supplement existing met-ocean measurements and will be used to finalize project design and weather forecasting during construction. The total duration of the buoy deployment is anticipated to be approximately 5 years; the buoy will be changed out for maintenance during this period. FUGRO is providing and operating the buoy for Vineyard Wind. See the full notice here.
